Survey: Armed groups provide more stable income to Yemenis Survey: Armed groups provide more stable income to Yemenis - Monday 12 April 2021 الساعة 05:14 pm مشاركة Aden, NewsYemen, Exclusive:  A new survey said that the Yemenis surveyed confirmed that economic insecurity is among the most important threats they face, as income opportunities in the public and private sectors diminish in the country.

Survey results show the "profound effects of conflict on Yemeni families" that 30 percent said a lack of income opportunities is the biggest threat they face, along with 28 percent who fear "renewed violence".

Survey responses in Houthi-controlled areas revealed that public sector employment has decreased by 11 percent since 2015.

Since many of those working in public sector jobs have not received their salaries for years, working in armed groups provides a more stable income.

Regarding the income opportunities available to youth, 61% of respondents in government-controlled areas and 35% of respondents in Houthi areas answered that joining the army or other security forces is consistently the best option.

In parts of the country, more than 60 percent of the population is struggling to secure food, after the economic collapse caused by the conflict made it increasingly difficult for Yemenis to carry out food and other basic needs.
