Yemen’s children suffer in the world Children’s Day الخميس 21 نوفمبر 2019 11:20 م الصحوة نت - خاص   Alsahwa Net- The World Children’s Day was commemorated on Wednesday, but the children in Yemen still live in misery caused by the ongoing five-year war.

Millions of the children in Yemen are living hard times since the Houthis toppled the legitimate government on 21st September 2014.

The children are vulnerable to death or maiming because of the Houthis-planted landmines that were laid across Yemen’s territory.

If escaped death, the children are suffering starvation and malnutrition and infectious diseases.

Local and international human rights organizations documented thousands of abuses against the children that were committed by the Houthis rebels over the last five years.

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Liberties said on Wednesday on the occasion of the World Children’s Day anniversary, that it reported in coordination with 13 international organization, nearly 66 thousand incidents of child abuses in 17 Yemeni governorates between 1 January 2015 until 30 August 2019.

It said in a statement that the Houthis militants killed around four thousand children and injured over five thousand during the same period.

Other 164 children were also maimed by the Houthis arbitrary shells on the residential areas, according to the Yemeni Network for Rights and Liberties.

It added that the Houthis militants abducted 456 children and that they are still being held captives until writing of this story.

Around 44 thousand children were forced into displacement because of the Houthis’ continuous fighting against the government’s forces, the organization said.

The Houthis militants who control the populous north Yemen, have frequently banned the circulation of vaccines in their-held territory.

This left children vulnerable to diseases and infections which is deemed as a crime against the children.

The Houthis’ crimes against the children did not stop at this point.

They also used them as human shields and turned their schools into barricades and military recruitment centers.

Majority of the Houthis fighters are young children who were easily recruited and mobilized to the warfronts, local and international human rights defenders say.

So far, the Houthis recruited 23,000 child soldiers without knowledge or permission from their parents.

Over eight million children in Yemen need urgent aides.

International reports indicate that nearly two million Yemeni children are out of schools due to shutdown of schools for being used as barricades or a shelter for the displaced people.

The public teachers in the Houthis-held areas, have not been paid for almost four years which forced thousands of teachers to look for other works to earn a living.

The Houthis have also used their management of the public education for promoting their extremism among the school children.

The government of Yemen urged the international community several times to stop the Houthis’ crimes against the children in Yemen and to save the children from being used in sectarian wars that threaten Yemen’s security and peace and endanger stability of the region.
