President Hadi meets UN envoy in Riyadh

President Hadi meets UN envoy in Riyadh الأربعاء 20 نوفمبر 2019 11:58 م الصحوة نت - خاص Alsahwa Net- The president Abd Rabo Mansour Hadi renewed on Tuesday his determination to a comprehensive and sustainable peace in Yemen based on the three references that include the GCC initiative, the National Dialogue Conference (NDC) outcomes and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on Yemen.

This came during a meeting, Hadi had on Tuesday with the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths in his interim residence in Riyadh, the Yemeni state-run Saba News Agency reported.

Hadi has also valued the peace efforts by Griffiths and his constant attempts to break the deadlock particularly in issues related to the implementation of the Stockholm agreement on Hodeida that includes the exchange of prisoners and lifting the Houthis-imposed siege on Taiz.

Hadi said that so far, the Houthis showed no signs of willingness to implement the Stockholm agreement amidst their continuous escalation towards failing the agreement.

Griffiths said that the ARiyadh agreement that was signed on 5 November between the government and the southern separation rebels known as the Southern Transitional Council (STC) is a significant step for strengthening the state institutions and Yemen’s security and stability.

This meeting between Hadi and Griffiths is the first since signing of the Riyadh agreement early this month.

The meeting coincides also with several new developments in Yemen.

The latest is the Houthis’ seizure of three Saudi Ships in the Red Sea and the late return of the government to Aden.

It also coincides with news leaks on indirect talks between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia that leads a military coalition in support to the Hadi’s government.

The talks were reported to reach a comprehensive de-escalation and reduction of the Saudi airstrikes against the Houthis’ forces.

Saudi Arabia already reduced its airstrikes against the Houthis following their declared unilateral initiative last September to halt missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia.

Griffiths and western officials say that the Al-Riyadh agreement that was reached between the government and the STC is a key step to access broad peace talks that will eventually end the five-year long war.
