Yemen: Houthis militants impose donation collection in commercial shops الأربعاء 20 نوفمبر 2019 11:38 م الصحوة نت - خاص Alsahwa Net-The Houthis installed last week donation boxes in commercial shops in the capital Sana’a with no prior permission from shop owners or managers, merchants in Sana’a said.

The merchants said that the Houthis gunmen brought donation boxes four days ago and installed them in shops by force.

In Yemen and other Arab and Muslim countries, donation boxes are often placed in shops and commercial centers for fund raising to social, political or even military purposes.

The Houthis say that collected money from donation boxes go to the benefit of “killed fighters’ families whose relatives were killed in the ongoing fighting against the internationally-recognized government which is also supported by the Saudi-led coalition.

Shop owners say that customers and residents show no willingness to donate to the Houthis-run donation boxes because of the existing deteriorated living and economic standards caused by suspension of monthly salaries to the public servants and loss of income sources in the Houthis-held areas.

Some citizens even mock such acts by the Houthis as they failed so far to run public services and succeeded only at tax and donation collection.

In the last two months, they carried out a nationwide donation collection for celebrating the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday.
