the European Union spokesman said in a statement issued on Monday "The completion of the joint declaration (of a comprehensive ceasefire) led by the United Nations and the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement constitute two main pillars in this context," adding that "since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen, the European Union has affirmed that the only way to get out of the crisis is the political solution.
"The European Union spokesman considered that the release of the detainees by the Yemeni parties on October 15 and 16, according to the agreement reached on September 27 in Geneva, represents an essential step in the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement signed in December 2018.
He added "It is also a reminder to all of us that progress can still be made through negotiation and settlements.
"In this regard, the European Union praised the efforts made by the International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations special envoy and his office to facilitate the release of the detainees and to reunite them with their families.
The European Union spokesman welcomed the Yemeni parties' commitment to continue negotiations on the prisoner exchange agreement.
He stressed that "this spirit of reconciliation must now be translated into a general political solution to the conflict in Yemen.
"At the conclusion of the statement, the European Union affirmed its full support for the UN-led process.
