The Director General of International Organizations at the Ministry of Human Rights, Essam Al-Sha'eri, said that a recent official statistic has monitored the recruitment of the Houthi militia since the beginning of the year, more than 4,638 children.
In a statement to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Al-Sha'eri indicated that the Houthis took advantage of the children's situation of being away from the educational process to throw them on the battlefronts.
The government report confirmed that the Houthi militia had camped schools in the governorates under its control, and had forced teachers to indoctrinate students with their slogans and incite them to join the battle fronts.
He said that the team’s monitoring and evaluation mechanism has verified, from confidential sources and documents, 222 cases of military use of schools from the Houthi militia, including 21 schools that are specially used for “recruitment and propaganda.
”Activists on social media recently shared video clips of dozens of child soldiers, some of them from the marginalized group, whom the Houthi coup militia had been forced to fight with and were captured.
Yemeni activists and human rights activists called on the Ministry of Human Rights and the National Committee to investigate allegations of human rights violations to listen to the child prisoners and press the Houthi militia to stop recruiting more children in its futile battles.
A report issued by the International Group of Experts on Human Rights in Yemen revealed earlier that the Houthi militia had documented many recruitment operations of children and girls in order to carry out attacks.
At the end of the past year 2019, a report by the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms, in cooperation with 13 international organizations, documented the Houthi coup militia’s perpetration of 65,971 incidents of violation against childhood in 17 Yemeni governorates, including more than 7,000 deaths, during the period from January 1, 2015 until August 30, 2019.
