Trouvé added, in a statement to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, that Sweden is devoting all its efforts with Saudi Arabia, the United Nations and its European Union partners to persuade the Yemeni conflict parties to cease fire and find a comprehensive political settlement.
He stated that there are no specific plans to host any potential Yemeni negotiations or consultations in the foreseeable future, however, we have informed the United Nations of our readiness to host any dialogue if the United Nations, the international community and the parties to the conflict so request, as happened in 2018 when the Stockholm Agreement was signed.
The Swedish ambassador affirmed that "the situation in Yemen is still dangerous and from the humanitarian point of view very worrying.
"He stressed "the need to open more humanitarian outlets throughout Yemen, as there is no alternative to a peaceful political settlement of the conflict," adding, "We may have different starting points with regard to the conflict, but we share the same goal of reaching a lasting peace and ending the suffering of the people.
"Trouvé pointed out that “the Yemeni people are suffering, and the need is dire for humanitarian relief,” adding, “I have visited Yemen twice this year and have witnessed some suffering and an urgent need for help, at the same time, I am very impressed with the flexibility and efforts that the Yemenis have shown, and for their sake we cannot give up and we will continue pressure for a ceasefire and a peaceful settlement through political talks under the auspices of the United Nations.
