Houthis hold first hearing of abducted journalists الثلاثاء 10 ديسمبر 2019 08:51 م الصحوة نت - خاص Alsahwa Net- The Houthis militants began on Monday first hearing of the abducted journalists who have been in captivity for over four years.

Lawyer of the detained journalists, Abdulmajid Sabra, said that he was surprised by the first hearing of the ten detained journalists with no prior notification.

“When I arrived the hearing room, I found out that the court already read out the accusation statement and the evidence list,” Sabra wrote on his Facebook page.

“They (the journalists) referred response to the court to their lawyer,” he said.

He said that he asked the judge for his decision about the case as the judge kept repeating the prosecution statement that “the detained journalists are enemy to the people of Yemen.

” The judge declined to prove this accusation and the lawyer asked for a copy of the case’s file, according to Sabra.

He called on the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate (YJS) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) to stand with their fellow reporters who undergo these hardships for their profession.

The first hearing was held for ten journalists that include: Abdulkhaleq Amran, Akram Al-Walidi, Al-Hareth Saleh Humaid, Tawfiq Al-Mansouri, Hesham Tarmoom, Haitham Al-Shehab, Hesham Al-Yousufi, Esam Bulghaith, Hasan Anab and Salah Al-Qaedi.

The journalists were physically assaulted one month ago by Yahya Saree, an officer of the Political Security Organization and one of the prison governors, according to Sabra.

This hearing took place following an announcement by the Houthis two days ago that they were ready to release the ten detained journalists in exchange that the legitimate government release ten Houthis-prisoners among them Houthis-affiliated reporters who work for the Houthis- Al-Masirah satellite television.
